There is more than one spot where you can enjoy a beautiful landscape of the river. Here are our favourites:
Passeio das Virtudes• Miradouro da Vitória • Terreiro da Sé do Porto • Jardim do Morro • Afurada de Cima • Jardins do Palácio de Cristal
In english, Saint John, is celebrated in Porto on June 24. However we start celebrating it on the night before. A typical São João night starts with grilled sardines for dinner and a lot of beer. After that, the streets of Porto are invaded by hundreds of people carrying fake hammers and hitting and being hit by them. At midnight there is a firework show on the river. And it is magical!
Porto is famous for various reasons, however one of the most known elements of Porto is the Port Wine and its cellars. When coming to Porto, you have the opportunity of visiting a Port Wine Cellar where you may find out more about its particularity and also experience a tasting.
Portugal has a very close relationship with the sea and so, a lot of the typical food has to do it. For example, codfish, sardines and octopus. However, the most typical dish in Porto is filled with meat and it is called Francesinha. Do not let the opportunity of eating this amazing dish fly away! If you are vegetarian, you may also try it. There are various versions of this dish without meat.
Old tram to Foz do Douro
These transports have been well kept and so, they are still beautiful. Tram 1, "Infante-Passeio Alegre", follows Douro River until it meets the sea (Foz). Its speed is moderate which makes the trip very charming and a great way to discover other Porto landscapes.
This transport is a fantastic and more intimate way of exploring Porto. Not only you have the chance to hear what the guide has to say about the city, but also the size of this transport allows you to go by its old alleys.
